Description
Our Deep Ocean Urns are 100% eco-friendly, biodegradable, safe and perfectly suitable for placing ashes in the ocean without harming wildlife or the environment.
The Deep Ocean Urns are an original design and hand made by me in my workshop, not in a sweat factory nor sourced unethically. They have a flat top with a small opening that is sealed once the ashes have been interred. The rounded base enables the Urn to sit gently on the surface of the water ready for it’s final, exciting voyage.
Every Urn is individual so it’s no surprise that when an Urn ‘speaks’ to a person it’s as unique as they are.
Materials for each urn are not all the same because different materials come naturally to hand collected on my walks or visits to beautiful places. On my wanderings alone or walks with the dogs I carry a small gathering bag in my pocket and I’m always delighted to come across interesting shells, leaves, twigs, coloured sand, flower heads, broken bird shells or feathers and pebbles. From home other natural materials might be collected including dried herbal tea leaves, natural decorative pieces liked dried leaves, bamboo and twine, slim curly branches or pieces of pruned vines, seeds, and dried pressed flowers are all carefully gathered from my garden and other people’s collections.
Each Urn starts it’s life made from recycled non glossy, ink free brown, white or clean butchers paper. Clean water and strong home made non-toxic glue ensures they are fit for purpose and very sturdy. Once an Urn is made a few weeks will go by as it settles into it’s shape, sitting quietly during that time to dry completely and before anything is added to it. The collection of water based non toxic paints are always at the ready to apply. I usually just let the Urn speak and I listen. Then find the gathered pieces from my collection to finish it, adding and matching as I go, paying attention to the ‘life’ of it and who it will finally carry to their final destination.
Every Deep Ocean Urn is a one off item, therefore won’t be exactly duplicated. But it you have seen one that you particularly like, I’ll do my best to make it for you though you should bear in mind every Urn is hand made and variations will naturally occur.
